A TOUGH CHALLENGE

Designing Favorit bicycles and accessories was a great challenge, and not only because of the history and

heritage of this brand. Since the Favorit bikes’ heyday, many years have gone by, and users’

technological demands have changed radically over the years.

Therefore, when designing the bicycles, it was necessary to take into account both the current definition of the

Favorit brand and the target customer profile. Consequently, the resulting product had to meet brand values

and customer expectations.

Prior to beginning the work on the design, we had become acquainted with current production possibilities in

ultra-lightweight carbon materials, special aluminium and magnesium alloys, and high strength stainless steels.

It was also necessary to study the history of the brand and the original manufacturing processes. We paid great

attention to the exploration of the expression elements of these historic bikes, and it was necessary to study all

the available texts. From period magazines, books and photographs, we chose elements that then influenced

our way of thinking when developing the new design.

THE INITIAL DESIGNS

The first studies were carried out in the spirit of a combination of the classical tubular construction of the frame with the modern organic shapes of the components, in order for the bike lines to stay clean and as simple as possible.

Apart from the frame, I was able to design my own original shapes of the stem, seat post and handlebars so that they corresponded with the character of the individual bicycles, while creating a unified line across the entire product range.

In designing and developing, it was necessary to connect these two seemingly incompatible worlds – the traditional one in the form of a tubular frame, drop bars, leather saddle and leather hand grips, and the innovative one in the form of an ultra-modern carbon belt, integrated gears and disc brakes. We were striving to create a harmonious combination of “time-proven” and “best modern features that the present day has to offer”.

NEW FAVORITS’ FRAMES

The circular cross-section tube is the most important component of the entire bike. It is a simple and very strong

element that is repeated on the bike in many places. We have stripped the iconic tubular frame of any

unnecessary adornments.

Individual frames offer different riding positions, geometries and colours. Functionally, they are however totally identical. The sportiest model called BIGBOSS has a sharper geometry based on the racing history of the brand

and most closely resembles the original Favorit with classic drop bars.

The more comfortable models (AVIATOR, CRONOS and DIAMANTE) pleasantly complement the new product

portfolio of the Favorit bicycle brand. They are designed with emphasis on a more comfortable riding position

and easy mounting.

All frames have common unifying elements, such as the clearly defined seat post, which is tailor-made so that its

length fits every customer perfectly.

ORIGINAL GEMS

In the past, Favorit also used to make very original stems and seat posts, which were ahead of their time (for example a cast aluminium stem pressed to a tube may be considered a predecessor of today’s AHEAD stem type).

The organic shapes of the stems and seat posts of the new Favorits resemble small sculptures with distinctive

original stylistic elements. Their job is to highlight the austere but nowadays very popular retro design of these

bikes. These parts together with the handlebars create a certain tension and express dynamism and elegance.

Each part has its own aesthetic value even by itself.

The integration of lighting into the stem and seat post was the logical outcome of trying to get a “well-rounded” bike, which would possess everything such a vehicle should have. We have thus created an original element not usually employed by other bicycle manufacturers, and the customers are provided with greater safety, whether they are riding in the city or in the country.
